How long since your last bike fit?

IMG_0115_100pcWe love riding our bikes. We ride them as often as we are able. One thing that we don’t necessarily notice while we are riding is changes in our own power, strength or flexibility.

Everyone wants to feel comfortable or go fast; or both. Improvements or decline in any of these areas, or an injury that has been sustained will change your ability to get the most speed or comfort out of your ride.

Changes in any of these elements, can lead to a need for a bike fit.

The Guru

It doesn’t matter whether you are a road cyclist, mountain biker, commuter or just like to cruise the bike paths, an athlete or just a casual rider, the need for a bike fit is the same.

A good fit gets the most of what you want out of the bike and lowers the chance of sustaining a repetitive injury.

A poor bike fit can lead to upper back/shoulder injury, lower back/hip injury or knee injuries just to list a few. This will probably lead to multiple trips to the physiotherapist.

Our staff have collectively over 20 years of bike fitting experience, coupled with our state of the art in store technology to deliver you the most comfortable or fast set up on the bike. Most of all we know how a great bike fit should feel. We know what most riders want and we aim to deliver that with our bike fits. So for little more than two trips to a physio, we can give you the bike fit that suits your needs.

2017 Tour of Italy – Its getting closer

Its just 3 months until commencement of our first Croydon Cycleworks overseas tour for 2017. Our tourists are getting very excited as they prepare to tackle some of northern Italy’s famed climbs of the Dolomites and Stelvio National Park. Its the Centenary Giro d’Italia, so expect some amazing racing, to go with some amazing riding for the crew. Don’t forget the amazing food too!

Before I tell you more and whet your appetite – We are taking interest for 2018 now, so get your name down. Pop into the shop or give us a call on 97235164 and speak to Nick or David, this years guides for the tour.

Passo Valparola - Italy 2014

Passo Valparola – Italy 2014

We can not begin to tell you how amazing this Italian region is for cycling. The crew will tackle the Dolomite’s famous Selle Ronde and Marmolada loops, plus other classic Giro climbs that have set up winners past and will do so again in 2017. Photos can not do this road cycling playground justice. This year we have a surprise route for the tourists that will blow their mind. The scenery is just stunning.

In 2016, our tourists were roadside when Orica BikeExchange’s adopted Aussie (Colombian) Estaban Chaves, led all riders home to victory over a profile that included 7 mountain passes. A fantastic day and a true privilege to watch.

Switchbacks - Italy 2014

Switchbacks – Italy 2014

Our tourists will then head to the town of Bormio at the foot of both the Passo Gavia & the Cima Coppi for 2017, the Passo Stelvio. The Stelvio is one of those near the top of a bucket list riding experiences. Starting out in Bormio, the climb is on from the word go. We travel through snow tunnels along the mountain side before reaching some of the famed switchbacks, that symbolise this climb. Rising to over 2750m above sea level, this is a true monster of a climb and one that provides the ultimate in satisfaction. Our tourists will get an amazing day, as the Giro will pass through Bormio when they are in town, tackling the Stelvio Pass, not once but twice, before a flying descent to the finish back in Bormio. This is just one of those days that will sit in the memory of those by the roadside forever.

Our last destination is Valdobbiadene, back in the southern Dolomites region. Again some amazing riding in store plus access to the races on climbs such as Piancavallo, where Marco Pantani decimated most of the peloton to secure part one of his 1998 Giro – Tour double. We also have access to the Hors Categorie climb of Monte Grappa, where our tourists saw an amazing mountain time trial victory by Columbian Nairo Quintana, to secure his maiden Giro d’Italia overall win.

Have you considered a bike fit?

Looking to get more aero, or a bit more power on the bike? Perhaps a bit more comfortable while riding? Perhaps you get off the bike just feeling sore? If you answered yes to any of these you should consider a full bike fit, especially if you find you are ending up with injuries or excessive soreness during or after a ride.

IMG_3441At Croydon Cycleworks, we utilise a combination of state of the art technology and our years of experience in fitting cyclists for all manner of disciplines. Our aim is to deliver you a service that not only finds you the position that you are searching for, but a service that you will tell everyone else about too.

So perhaps you are a triathlete or racing cyclist and you are aiming to save more watts. We can review both your current position, but also explore other position options that will make you more streamlined on the bike. However, we will never get you more aero at the expense of power. In fact we can also look to optimise your power/aerodynamics combination.

IMG_3442For some of you, comfortability on the bike may be the issue. Maybe you suffer lower back pain/hip pain, hamstring tightness, knee pain? Maybe you get sore in the shoulders, neck or arms? With our adjustments to your position we can address these pain points and more. We look at all elements of saddle height & position, crank length and cleat position plus how you are set up at the cockpit/handlebars region.

Just compare the cost of a bikefit with 2 or 3 trips to a physio and you will see it makes sense.
